PO to run vehicles on rape seed oil
THE Post Office (PO) is to use rape seed oil as a greener alternative to
conventional fuel for 6,000 of its vans and lorries in London and other large
cities.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is closely examining the POs trials as
part of his integrated transport policy. But the Government would have to remove
the tax placed on it two years ago if it is to be encouraged.
Rape seed oil fuel
is currently more expensive than diesel fuel. The UKs rape seed crop is about 100,000 tons.
