Polish tractor plant to cut jobs

POLISH trade union Solidarity has agreed for management of the ailing Ursus tractor factory to cut jobs among its 12,000 staff in a bid to reduce losses.

The shift in the unions stance follows a slump in tractor sales in the first two months of the year after a cut in Government subsidies for loans to farmers.

Ursus tractor sales are expected to reach 10,000 this year. It needs to double this for the plant to break even.
