PRECISION farming needs more research before it can be widely adopted on UK farms, says a recent research review published by the Home-Grown Cereals Authority. Automated sensing and a better understanding of how much variation is needed within a field to justify variable treatment are key needs. Extensive trials show field variation arises from a large and complex range of factors, says report author Dr Roger Sylvester-Bradley of ADAS. *
