Promotion boosts regional cheeses

THE Government will today launch an initiative to promote regional cheeses overseas.

Lord Donoughue, minister for food trade, who is alarmed at the UKs £420m cheese trade deficit is spearheading the drive.

Some 35 cheese manufacturers will meet in Swindon for an agriculture ministry seminar aimed at increasing their exports.

Lord Donoughue believes opportunities in central Europe and the European Union are too good to miss.
