Protesters call for improvement in conditions
The World Development Movement called for UK consumers to demand better work conditions and pay for banana plantation workers in Costa Rica. The human rights group alleges the workers suffer from the effects of pesticides.
It dumped a tonne of banana skins at Del Monte Fresh Produces office in Kent yesterday in protest.
Del Monte sales director Peter Miller gave demonstrators a copy of the companys employment polices and promised to meet them again.
