Quota on pickers threatened
as strawberry harvests start

A QUOTA limit on foreign students entering the UK is threatening to impose an acute shortage of fruit pickers as the Scottish strawberry harvest prepares to get under way.

Ewan Pate, the National Farmers Union of Scotlands soft fruit convener, said growers needed at least another 1,000 foreign pickers.
