Quota prices rise
SHARP increases in milk quota lease prices are unwarranted, says Charles Holt of the Farm Consultancy Group.
After a summer of stable prices, leasing prices increased last week, reaching 7.8p/litre for 3.78% quota and 8.6p/litre for some 4.05% supplies.
Yet Milk Marque members should only expect a maximum 0.3p/litre bonus this winter, he says, since the co-op has much milk to sell on contract and spot markets. "A monthly market-related bonus will only add a few £ to the bank balance at best. Its not time to crack open the champagne."
