Rain holds up progress on seed crops

WEATHER has held up progress harvesting seed wheat crops for RJ Moore and sons, near Stapleford in Wiltshire.

Roger Moore says, “Everything is fit now and some wheat is discoloured and there is the odd sprouting grain on the headlands.”

After a wet weekend he has managed to get on with Deben seed wheat (C1/C2). He has 50ha (120 acres) of the crop. Speaking on the combine he says, “I reckon its doing about 4t/ha- It looks OK.”

He thinks it will be a good variety, “although its for a specialist market, it is cheap to grow and will be a barn buster.”

He will move on to seed Claire on Thursday (23 August).
