Rape harvest slow and variable
JONATHAN GIBBS, of United Oilseeds, is frustrated at the slow start to harvesting oilseed rape in the south west.
“Weve hardly scratched the surface.” He predicts that between 10-15% has been combined.
“The yields move from one extreme to the other.” Better than expected yields are around 4.3t/ha (1.75t/acre) down to 2.5t/ha (1t/acre).
Varieties include Canberra, Madrigal and Cohort.
The slow start is reflected by his concern that moisture levels are still high.
