BIG numbers of rent reviews are still to be settled, despite the passing of the Lady Day deadline.
Tenants are firmly resisting any increases, says national chairman of the Tenant Farmers Association Reg Haydon.
"The £ has never been stronger, prices have never been lower – its a brave man who would say things are going to get better quickly."
Mr Haydon praises Dorset County Council, where the average change on the 30 or so farms reviewed this spring was a fall of nearly 20% to typical levels of £80/acre.
Agent Barry Meade of Davis Meade and Partners, meanwhile, is acting for one north Somerset farmer whose landlord is pushing for a 30% hike in rent. "Its completely wrong – and were heading for arbitration." *
