Rooker out, Quin in at MAFF

JEFF ROOKER has become the second junior agriculture minister to be shifted in Labours second government reshuffle since it came to power in May 1997.

Mr Rooker, MP for Birmingham Perry Barr, the minister for food safety, will becomes junior minister at the Department of Social Security.

He will be replaced by Joyce Quin, MP for Gateshead East and Washington West and former Minister for Europe, who moves from her ministerial post at the State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

A replacement has yet to be announced for junior agriculture minister Lord Donoughue, who resigned yesterday (Wednesday).
