Rumfords sold

HAVING sold their farm and being unable to find another suitable holding prompted Sir Malcolm and Jonathan Chaplin to disperse their Rumford herd of Holstein Friesians.

Moving the cattle from their home at Brentwood, Essex to the sale centre at Penrith produced a top price of 3700gns.

Cheshire breeders R E and T R Summerscales, Stalybridge invested 3700gns in Olympian Prelude Mina, a well bred heifer from four generations of Excellents and still giving 31kg a day in the second half of her lactation.

She was one of the top index animals in the sale, with a PIN of +£96 and ITEM +£101.

Averages: 89 cows and calved heifers £1268; 25 served heifers £812 and 26 maiden heifers £492. (Norton and Brooksbank)
