Rural women forced to stay home

WOMEN living in rural areas are giving up work after they marry and have children so as not to invoke the disapproval of village gossips.

The strength of moral censure that exists in countryside areas is revealed in a Rural Audit to be launched at Westminster by the rural group of Labour MPs.

The Rural Audit is to provide a blueprint for a new Labour strategy for the countryside, to be set out in a White Paper this autumn.
