Ryegrass variety retained on list
LASSO, the late perennial ryegrass variety, is to remain in the fully recommended category of the 2003 NIAB Recommended List following the decision of a NIAB appeal committee.
Lasso breeder DLF Trifolium, Denmark, felt that the original committees decision to remove Lasso from the list was unjustified, particularly in light of the large stocks of organic seed currently available, according to Steven Bentley of NIAB.
The committee decided that the conservation yields, mildew resistance and winter hardiness of Lasso make it a variety of value for continued general use. It has been retained on the list in category G. *
