Scientists close to solving cereal problem
SCIENTISTS at the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) believe they are close to finding a solution to a disease which has attacked Chariot and Landlord barley.
The disease – which turns leaves brown – has been identified as ramularia.
The SAC believes there is only one effective fungicide.
But it intends to carry out further research to find out the right time for farmers to tackle the disease in the crop.
