Scots farmers’ markets to be a force
FARMERS markets are set to become a force in Scotland, according to The Scotsman.
These markets – which rake in £1 billion-worth of turnover in the USA – have already been held in Forfar, Inverness, Elgin, Forres and Dundee in Scotland, while in England there have been more 80 markets held.
Jim Fairlie, a shepherd who has also masterminded five markets in Perth, is calling for the establishment of a Scottish National Association of Farmers Markets.
He believes it could become an effective lobbying organisation with a political edge.
The Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society is to hold a conference on the subject in Perth in December.
