Scots lead potato research

NEW potato trial facilities in Morayshire are to play a leading role in a Europe-wide search for potato varieties which need fewer chemical inputs.

The two-year project brings together breeders and scientists from Scotland, Holland, Germany, Italy and Spain with two further processing factories and the Scottish Crop Research Institute at Dundee.

Producer and exporter Gordon & Innes is heading the project at its Ardgye unit near Elgin.
