Scots to vote on foxhunting bill

THE Scottish Parliament is set to vote on the future of The Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Bill, which could lead to a ban on hunting.

According to The Times, if MSPs decide to let the bill proceed, they will be “flying in the face” of recommendations from a Scottish Parliamentary committee.

The committee has decided the bill is flawed and would not end cruelty, reports the paper. The vote is due on Wednesday (19 September).

An amendment to the Bill from Labour MSP Elaine Murray would allow MSPs to register their opposition to hunting without voting for the Bill, it adds.

The amendment does not propose a ban on hunting but asks the Scottish Executive to examine ways of changing the law the paper says.
