Scottish union shake-up faces opposition

PLANS for restructuring the Scottish National Farmers Union have received a hostile reception from the Ayr area executive.

The plans involve abolishing the existing 28 union areas and replacing them with eight regional boards. Ayr has threatened to resign and “go it alone” over the issue.

The union leadership has warned that the union must change if it is to “balance the books”. It is losing £2,000 a week.
