THE various farm assurance schemes in Scotland are moving to a single inspectorate and administration. A Scottish Office grant of £35,000 will fund a feasibility study of much closer integration.
Schemes for beef, lamb, pigs, cereals, milk, and trout are involved and the study will be conducted for Scottish Food Quality Certification, the umbrella organisation for the assurance schemes.
The grant was announced on Monday by SFQC managing director Peter Brown, during a conference in Perth organised by Scottish Quality Cereals, one of the bodies which will be involved.
Mr Brown said there was room for closer integration in administration and inspections. But he did not think the outcome would be a single, all-embracing farm assurance scheme for Scotland.
