Sheep producers to join MAFFs foot-rot project

A THREE-YEAR MAFF-funded research project has been set up to look at foot-rot control, and researchers are inviting sheep producers to take part.

Researcher Geert Wassink of Warwick University, explains what the project will involve. "We are hoping to isolate bacteria involved in foot-rot and look at other factors associated with the disease and its control."

The project will be conducted jointly by Warwick University, Bristol vet school and the Agricultural University in Wageningen, The Netherlands. Results will be used to develop future control and eradication programmes for foot-rot.

Dr Wassink is keen to hear from producers who have a flock foot-rot problem as well as from those who feel they have good control over it or have eradicated it from their flock.

He would also like to hear from flockmasters whose flocks are suffering from outbreaks of the new disease, contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD), and assures strict confidentiality.

To take part in the project contact Geert Wassink or Laura Green at Warwick University (02476-522573 or 02476-523797).n
