Crush keeps em still, safe and secure
HOLD cows securely when calving or suckling calves using a crush from Tony Binns Livestock Equipment.
Designed by a Lancs farmer, the crush can be fastened against the wall to hold animals securely during calving, and can also be used to restrain cows when calves are suckling.
Designed for one man operation, the side gate funnels the cow into the self closing head yoke. If the animal goes down, the hinged gate is out of the way, while the head yoke opens in both directions to release its head.
Constructed using strong fully-galvanised tubular steel, the crush costs £500 (01423-770757).

Single dose enough for pig vaccine…
FINISHER producers buying weaners from many sources can protect pigs with a single dose enzootic pneumonia vaccine, Hyoresp, claims manufacturer Merial.
The single dose allows rapid introduction of whole weaner/finisher herd vaccination programmes, says the company. Pooled piglets from different sources can be vaccinated from 10 weeks old with one shot before they enter the finishing house.
A more conventional two-dose regime can be used in newly born piglets, it says.
Trials with Hyoresp show that growth rates of vaccinated pigs increase by 42g/day between 11 and 22 weeks compared with unvaccinated pigs. Vaccinated pigs had a 50% reduction in lung lesions.
The vaccine costs about 50p for a single dose, but this may vary depending on vet charging structures (01279-775858, fax 01279-775888).
