Six-row Siberia does well
NORTHUMBERLAND farmer Mark Vickers, Near Alnwick, has combined 10ha (25 acres) of Siberia six-row barley.
Siberia yielded 6.1-7.4t/ha (2.5-3t/acre). “It was pretty good really. There was 20m in from the headland where all that had grown was grass.” The specific weight was 59.5kg/hl. He says he will use the variety again.
He also has some Regina barley, which he says will be fit in 10 days. They should start oilseed rape in the middle of next week.
The farm is based on a sandy loam soil.
