Slaughter charges
PEERS have called for an independent arbitration mechanism to protect slaughterhouses from excessive charging by meat hygiene inspectors.
In a Lords debate on the change to headage charging for meat inspection, Lord Willoughby de Broke expressed concern at plans to give inspectors power to levy additional charges at their discretion.
He said the proposed power would be compounded by the fact there is no appeal mechanism. *
