Slaughter report

EU farm ministers have called on the EU Commmission to produce a second report on the impact of the EU calf slaughter scheme by October.

Despite evidence that the UK is taking the biggest share of production cuts under the scheme, most ministers claimed it was too early to assess the results.

A Eurostat report released this week forecast that calf production in the UK will drop by a massive 63.7% this year compared with a 3.6% fall for the EU as a whole. &#42
