Smaller brother for Massey Fergusons flagship harvester

MASSEY Fergusons flagship Cerea 7278 combine harvester now has a smaller brother – the 340hp Cerea 7274.

Like the 7278, the new model has eight straw walkers and is said by MF to have an output about 10% higher than the previous MF40RS combine, making it suitable for annual duties of 400ha (1000 acres) plus.

Starting from the front, the 7274 is equipped with a 6.8m Powerflow Autolevel table as standard – a Freeflow version can be specified and there are cutting widths from 6.1m to 7.7m available.

Automatic cutting height control, automatic field pressure control, pre-set stubble height and automatic reel speed are included.

The crop is threshed by a 1680mm wide eight rasp bar cylinder having a 600mm diameter with the concave area given as 1.06sq m. Further separation is achieved using a rear beater and rotary separator.

An option for the 7274 is to specify Massey Fergusons Constant Flow system which is designed to automatically match the forward speed of the combine to the load on the threshing system.

In the cleaning shoe, the combines HiStream-100 system has a grain transport capacity of 100t/hour to help ensure no bottlenecks in the flow of the clean grain to the combines 9500 litre grain tank. The units sieves are electronically adjusted from the cab.

For the straw, the five-step, eight straw walkers are claimed to impart an aggressive lifting and tearing action to extract any remaining grains.

A straw chopper with four rows of knives is provided as standard but, for those requiring better performance, MF offers a chopper with eight rows of serrated knives as an option.

With 340hp available from an 8.4 litre Sisu six-cylinder engine, the manufacturer claims the 7274 is far from underpowered – even when chopping green stemmed straw. The combines transmission comprises a four-speed hydrostatic unit with electronic selection.

For the operator, MFs Datavision 11 information and control system allows monitoring of combine performance and the remote adjustment of sieve and concave gap settings, among others.

The MF 7274 Cerea is listed at £160,725 with the 6.8m Powerflow Autolevel table, or £155,925 with the optional 6.8m Autolevel Freeflow table. &#42
