South African expects maize shortage

INDUSTRY analysts expect South Africas maize harvest to fall short of official forecasts by 1 million tonnes.

The crop has been hit by hot and dry weather and is expected to have been cut to just 6.2m tonnes.

South African maize prices have risen steeply in expectation of the shortfall.
