Spray rule threat

SPRAY operators who ignore buffer zone regulations – Local Environmental Assessments for Pesticides – will face prosecution if caught, DEFRA has warned.

The warning follows a case last month which resulted in a farmer in Lincolnshire being fined £2600 plus £1400 costs after pleading guilty to two charges of failing to carry out a LERAP assessment.

A DEFRA spokesman said the case showed the authorities would take action. &#42

"Farmers will be prosecuted if they go ahead and ignore the LERAP scheme," he said.
