Springhill ewe tops the rest at NI Texel event
IN-LAMB Texel ewes sold to 1110gns when one from John Fosters well-known Springhill flock headed the entry at Automart, Portadown.
A keen company of breeders turned out for this offering of females from the Hillhead, Blackstown and Springhill flocks but it was the three-shear ewe from Springhill that produced the days strongest spate of bidding.
"She is the best female I have ever sold from the flock," said Mr Foster after his ewe had been claimed by Ernie Gibson, Donegal. The ewe is by Groughfoot Venture Scout and is in-lamb to Blackstown Diamond that was bought this year for 1700gns.
A daughter of the top-priced ewe also sold well making 650gns to John Brennan, Donegal. More good prices for Springhill came with the 750gns purchase by Louise Reid of an April-born gimmer by Blackstown Biggles and in lamb to Diamond.
Best for Hillhead was 720gns paid by Martin Cromie, Tullyear for a smart daughter of Brague Arkle, the ram which took the male championship at this years Royal Highland Show. This hogget is bred from some of the flocks most successful families.
A February-born gimmer by Hillhead Classic made 620gns. A much-admired selection of ewe lambs from Springhill sold to 420gns for a Clougher Duo daughter claimed by Loughanmore Farms. (Automart.) *
