SCOTTISH potato equipment manufacturer Reekie has been acquired by Netherlands-based farm machinery group Netagco.
For Netagco, based at Lelystad, the acquisition of Reekie and recently Wuhlmaus product lines, completes a portfolio of potato machinery which includes Rumptstad rotary cultivators and haulm shredders, Hassia and Structural planters and Miedema elevators and conveyors.
Reekie directors Gordon Skea and Jeff Sanderson, who have joined Netagco with responsibility for the potato division, say the move will improve Reekies export prospects.
And it is hoped production of some of the Wuhlmaus range will be moved to Reekies Forfar premises, following Netagcos acquisition of Wulmhaus product rights and brand name but not the manufacturer, Maschinenfabrik Niewohner, nor its factory.
"It gives us a Continental base for machine and parts distribution, and access to an extensive dealer network for our products across the rest of Europe," says Gordon Skea.
The Wuhlmaus range of one- to three-row bunker harvesters will complement the Reekie Clean-Flow potato harvesters and give Netagco a strong presence in Germ-any, the Netherlands and other Continental markets where this type of harvester is favoured.
