SQLBA to take on pigmeat?
THE Scotch Quality Beef & Lamb Association (SQBLA) may take on the marketing of pigmeat, reports The Herald.
Association chairman John Ross said the move would be “sensible” and he would want to be “first at the table” if there was an opportunity.
Rosss remarks to the associations annual meeting came as debate continues over the future of the Meat and Livestock Commission north of the Border.
Rural affairs minister Ross Finnie also addressed the meeting. He ruled out the possibility of a cull to take older ewes off the market this autumn.
He said it was not possible under European legislation.
Finnie announced a £150,000 grant to the SQBLA to promote Scotch beef and lamb to overseas buyers.
