Summertime values are up

THE Summertime Special sale of the North Western Holstein Friesian Breeders Club at Crewe saw values up on the previous month, particularly for heifers.

Bidding twice reached 1480gns. The heifer Fieldside Erica 331st from Tom Jolly and Partners, Great Eccleston, Blackpool was first to realise the days ceiling price.

She is by Maplewood Black Advancer and out of a Benningbrough Sentry dam and had been calved three weeks. Buyers were Cornes and Co, Nantwich.

Sharing the top price was Stoke-on-Trent breeder Michael Gents early June-calved heifer Greatgate Lincoln Wedgy 31st, bred out of a twice 10,000kg dam by Astro Jet. She heads for Abergele with W J Davies.

Harry Evans, owner of the Ceinwen herd on Anglesey, judged the show classes and awarded the championship to Goostrey Coll 189th, a late May calved heifer by Hanoverhill Victor from C R Griffiths and Sons, Middlewich. She made 1450gns to C F Cotton, Stoke-on-Trent.

Averages: 15 cows £874; 78 heifers £1095. (Wright-Manley)
