Survey aims to spot unproductive ewes

RECORDING unproductive ewes will help researchers identify the link between them and infectious disease on farms as well as benefiting producers.

About 15,000 producers have been mailed a Moredun Foundation survey to help research: Completing it will highlight where losses are occurring in flocks and allow data collection for the study, says institute vet Colin Macaldowie. These losses carry a heavy financial penalty, he adds.

"It is notoriously difficult to assess losses without accurate records. By identifying which ewes are unproductive, and for what reason, this survey will allow producers to adopt new strategies and minimise future losses."

He urges producers to complete the survey and return it to the Moredun Foundation. &#42
