ONLY one more VarPlan 2000 wheat trial was harvested in Scotland last week, with plots at Laurencekirk, Oldmeldrum and Inverness still uncut on Monday. The new figures, from Perth, show candidate variety Tanker taking gold, at 114% of controls, old-timer Riband close on its heels at 113% and Option and Cockpit sharing the bronze position at 110%. SACs David Cranstoun stresses that these are only one year and one site results, but notes that Claires performance, trailing in at 100%, has been a bit disappointing at other locations too.
