Tasty Robert to promote tractor logo

A 25-year-old dairy farmer has won a National Farmers Union contest to find the tastiest farmers to promote its little red tractor logo.

Robert Clapp, who farms in Somerset, beat 17 other contenders to be named top of the tasty farmers on Wednesday (28 September) night in London.

The panel of judges included Cosmopolitan editor Lorraine Butler.

Seven regional winners were also chosen to help promote the British Farm Standard mark, which denotes high food hygiene, environmental and animal welfare standards.

All winners will now take part in a series of promotional activities to tell shoppers more about food bearing the little red tractor.

Their first public appearance will be at the launch of a national advertising campaign for the logo in mid October.

Robert farms 350 Holstein cattle on the familys 400-acre farm in Glastonbury, near Somerset, which also produces Westcountry farmhouse cheddar.

He said: “Farming is having a tough time at the moment and anything that we can do to promote it has to be a worthwhile endeavour.

“Its great to be part of the fresh face of British farming.”

Regional winners were: Ben Carter, Wiltshire; David Exwood, West Sussex; Jane Holland, Leicestershire; David Lewis, North Wales; Christopher Moore, Lincolnshire; Richard Tomlinson, Lancashire; and Matt Ware, Herefordshire.
