Tata buys Tetley tea
TATA Tea, part of the Bombay-based Tata conglomerate, has bought Britains Tetley tea for 271 million.
Tetley is a market leader in the UK and Canada and second in the USA.
As a prelude to the Tata deal, Tetley sold its US coffee interests.
Tata says it will eventually supply all of Tetleys requirements for north India tea, and immediately provide 40-50% of its Malawi tea requirements from south Indian plantations.
