BIDDING rose to 6800gns at the sale of the milking portion of Summercourt herd at Newquay last week.
And 10 of the lots from this Holstein and Holstein Friesian herd of Eric and Glad Comely cleared the 2000gns-mark.
Top call came for Summercourt Van Iris, the successful show cow by Vanguard. This third lactation cow, out of a Moffaview Alabama dam, sold to an undisclosed telephone bidder.
Moments later he paid 3200gns for her younger sister, Summer-court Inspiration Iris Red. She had just completed a second note of 9000kg and was sold in-calf to Shoremar Milan.
The herds "gem", the top show cow Summercourt Jan Midnight Trotwood, made 6000gns.
Taking this 1996 All-Britain four-year-old Production Cham-pion (BHS) was R * * and E N Targett and Sons for their Carymoor herd at Castle Cary, Somerset.
She had calved her fourth two months ago and was giving 63kg on the day.
Lanhydrock Estates paid the days third highest price of 4000gns for Bergitte Prelude Sommeil, a second calver.
