Tesco gets thumbs-up from pig men

BRITISH pig farmers have given a clean bill of health to the supermarket chain Tesco for ensuring all their foreign pigmeat is produced to British standards.

Tesco had invited the British Pig Industry Support Group (BPISG) to monitor its Dutch suppliers after accusations they were importing substandard foreign pork.

The BPISG expects one in 10 producers to go out of business in the next two months unless domestic pigmeat prices improve.

They have accused some retailers of driving British producers out of business by importing cheap foreign pork produced under conditions that are illegal here.
