Tesco withdraws chicken steaks
By FWi staff
TESCO has withdrawn thousands of chicken steaks after it emerged that they could have been made from meat intended for pet food.
Meat unfit for human consumption could have found its way into packs of Premier brand chicken supplied to the store at the end of last year.
The Farmfoods supermarket group has also withdrawn some of its own-brand chicken nuggets, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The products were produced by Perkins Frozen Foods, Stoke-on-Trent, which the Food Standards Agency say may have unwittingly received the meat.
It was unlikely that there would be any specific health risks from these products, said the FSA.
