Three die on UK farms within a week

Three people have died within a week in separate accidents on farms across the UK.

In Northern Ireland a man in his 50s died on Tuesday 20 January after he fell from the roof of new farm building near Portadown, County Armagh.

It is believed the man, who was a foreign national, was a contractor working on the roof when he fell.

Three days earlier a man named locally as 54-year-old scrap dealer “Pudgie” Evans from Elton, Cheshire, died after he was electrocuted on Holme Farm in Ince.

Mr Evans had been using a crane to remove scrap metal when his vehicle struck an overhead power line.

He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital but died shortly after arrival.

On Wednesday (14 January) Texel sheep breeder and father-of-three Aled Jones was found dead, in what is believed to have been an accident with a chainsaw.

Mr Jones was discovered on a farm near Llandyrnog, North Wales. 

North Wales Police said in a statement that the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

It added officers had attended the scene, and both next of kin and the coroner had been informed.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and HSE Northern Ireland are investigating the cases.
