TIM Bennett was elected NFU deputy president in 1998. He has also served on the unions Livestock Committee and the Finance and Organisation Committee.

Mr Bennett was born in July 1953 and was brought up in the West Midlands.

He attended Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, Newton Abbot, Devon.

After leaving college, he worked in France and then in Herefordshire before moving to South Wales in 1978 to farm in partnership with his wife.

He is the owner-occupier of an all grassland farm in a Less Favoured Area 12 miles from Carmarthen.

The farm has a 70-cow pedigree Holstein/Friesian dairy herd, with calves retained as replacements for the dairy herd or for beef.

Tims NFU career includes time spent as County Vice Chairman of Carmarthenshire, 1987; and County Chairman of Carmarthenshire, 1988.

He is also a member of the Agricultural Land Tribunal, the Estate Advisory Committee for the National Botanic Garden of Wales and has been a school governor.
