Top daughters

A CROWD of over 300 turned up at Lower Woodley Farm, Lanivet, Bodmin, Cornwall to take bids to 660gns when Mr A and Mrs A R De Boer dispersed their non-pedigree Holstein Friesian dairy herd.

Auctioneers Stags, who are selling the farm, drew most of the trade from west country buyers. Top bid was paid for a November-calved heifer by Lasso claimed by P Cowling, Wadebridge, Cornwall.

Some good daughters of Bluff were on offer with the best encouraging Messrs Jones of Exeter to pay 640gns for a December second calver and 600gns for another that was freshly calved.

Heifer calves by sires Gibbon and Hairybreiz livened up the day and attracted a spate of very positive bidding selling to 160gns with many ranging between 140gns and 150gns.

Averages: 80 cows and heifers £401, 26 bulling and yearling heifers £176 and 23 heifer calves £124. &#42
