Top MAFF man accused of bullying
MPs accused the most senior civil servant in the ministry of agriculture yesterday (14 February) of bullying, secrecy and bad management.
Sir Richard Packer, the permanent secretary who has taken early retirement, admitted that the communications record of his department was “not a plus” during his tenure.
But he denied several of the charges, including that of bullying, levelled at him by the Commons public accounts committee.
He was reportedly pushed out of the ministry because he complained of excessive spending by the former minister of agriculture, Jack Cunningham.
