SMITHFIELD sees John Deere top out its 5000 series general purpose tractors with the introduction of an 80hp model, the 5500.
Described as being suited to pto and light draft work, the model comes in two and four-wheel drive versions powered by a 4-cylinder constant power engine with 20% torque reserve.
This drives through a strengthened 12 speed, 30kph synchronised transmission – an optional 24-speed/40kph unit provides creeper speeds down to 0.4kph and a synchronised reverser.
On four-wheel drive models, a 55í turning angle and 6í caster angle on the front axle gives a turning circle of 3.8m.
Standard specification on both models includes an independent 540rpm pto – shiftable 540/1000 version optional – and a category II three point linkage with a maximum lift of 3160kg, or 2400kg throughout the lift arc .
Further up the power range, next year Deere is to offer a 18 forward/7 reverse, 40kph, full powershift transmission for its 125hp 6810 and 140hp 6910 tractors. *
