BUYERS vindicated the Simmental judges decision when the champion and reserve winning bulls, chosen by Gordon Clarke of Fife, accounted for the two top bids of 9000gns and 10,000gns, respectively.

Commercial buyers dominated the breeds trade at Perth, which saw 83 transactions average £2536, down £126 on last year.

The highest call came from Perthshire-based Balmanno Farms and Robert MacGregor to jointly take Cleenagh Jack from Co Fermanagh breeder, Adrian Richardson. He is home-bred on both sides of his pedigree; his sire is Cleenagh Flasher and he is out of a Sacombe Edgar dam.

The Clements family from Stowmarket, Suffolk are regular Perth buyers of the best Charolais and Simmental and this time took another good one back to their Darshams herd giving 9000gns for supreme champion, Brooklyn Joshua.

From the four-cow herd of Lynda and Haddon Burditt from Market Harborough, Joshua is by Heywood Talent and out of a Gretna House cow by Brinkton Brilliant. He had a 400-day weight of 774kg and a Beef Value of 24. (United Auctions.)
