Top Scots dairy farmer to quit for Canada
LEADING Scottish dairy farmer Gavin Robertson has put his farm on the market with plans to start afresh in Canada.
The 30-year old, who has a 273.17ha (675 acre) farm Falsidehill, near Kelso, plans to relocate to North America.
The farm holds 150 Aries Holstein Friesian milking cows which yield more than 8,200 litres at 4% butterfat. About 80.94ha (200 acres) are given over to arable crops – mainly winter wheat and barley. FPD Savills are asking for offers of more than £1.3 million.
He appreciated that the fortunes of farmers always goes in cycles. However, he said he was sick and tired of the constant red tape forced upon farmers by government, and in particular, the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food (MAFF).
