TOTAL meat consumption is set to rise by 200,000 tonnes this year to make a grand total of 4.3 million tonnes, according to David Walker of McKay Foods, a major supplier to the McDonalds chain.

Mike Taylor, the divisional director of Marks and Spencers food business, was also positive. He said: “Customers are coming back because they are finding that beef is now of a much more consistent quality.”

Both were commenting at the Royal Highland Show.
