Townies find fear on the farm

AN £11 million fund to enable farmers to diversify into tourism and accommodate thousands of city-dwellers has had farcical consequences, reports The Independent.

It reports on one hapless visitor who went off to the local pub for his supper and returned terrified because the “wild animals” had put their heads over the hedges.

Another visitor asked if the farmyard noise could be kept down during the calving season.

Some 300 farms offering accommodation are listed in a book titled Stay on a Farm in the North of England.
