Trailer disc brakes add stopping power

A NEW range of trailer axles with disc brakes is claimed to offer safer operation than conventional drum brake systems by reducing stopping distances by one-third.

Marketed by Norfolk-based FAD (UK), the disc brakes are also claimed to require less maintenance, with service intervals as high as 180,000km.

Aimed at those using fast tractors to haul heavy loads on a regular basis, the disc brakes are 50% more expensive than drum systems, says FAD, but savings in maintenance and efficiency are claimed. &#42

More efficient braking for trailers is claimed when these FAD disc brakes are fitted.
