Computer checks calfs feed profile

SAVE time and keep a check on calf health using the Automated Stand Alone Calf Feeder marketed by Volac and British Denkavit.

The computerised feeder allows up to 60 electronically ear-tagged calves to be fed one of up to four different feeding plans, say the companies.

A calfs feeding period can be split into five sections allowing careful introduction of milk at the start of life, with gradual phasing out as it begins to take concentrates.

Early warnings of digestive upset or ill health can also be flagged up, as the machine records when calves dont consume their allotted ration, according to the companies.

Feeders start from £2740. Contact Volac (01223-208021, fax, 01233-207629) or British Denkavit (01202 670561, fax 01202 682371).

Strikes & surges are soaked up

PROTECT buildings from lightning strikes using a Delta LA Lightning Arrestor and Delta CA Surge Capacitor says distributor, Sterling Equipment.

Equipment controlling feeding and ventilation systems in pig and poultry buildings is vulnerable to damage by lightning strikes and surges in power supply, says the company. The lightning arrestor is designed to pass large surges of lightning – up to 100,000 amps – harmlessly to the ground, it says. Smaller surges of up to 6000V are handled by the surge capacitor.

The product is said to require no maintenance and handle any number of surges. It costs £170 for single phase or £235 for three phase supplies. (01765-605999, fax, 01765-608014).

Trailer tugs blocks and bales – and tips

TRANSPORT feed blocks and bales weighing up to 500kg with the Agriquad 500 ATV trailer says manufacturer, AR-Mech.

Suitable for all ATVs equipped with a 50mm (2in) ball hitch, the trailer is supplied with a single spike to handle round bales, according to the company.

Tipping is possible with a double-acting ram powered from the ATVs own hydraulic supply or via a hand winch, it says.

Optional pallets for carrying feed blocks and gripper forks for transporting wrapped silage are also available for use with the trailer.

The trailer costs about £650. (01768-486315, fax, 01768-868139).
